BSCB Children and Young People’s Shadow Board

The BSCB Shadow Board is made up of young people representing the Bristol Youth Council, Children in Care Council, Bristol Young Carers, Mentality, Freedom LGBTQ and Unity BME. They help the BSCB to set their priorities for safeguarding work, and also conduct their own work.

The United Nations believes that every child and young person has the right to express their views and have them taken seriously.

The Shadow Safeguarding Children Board informs the work of the Bristol Safeguarding Children Board by being a place where adults can ensure that children and young people are at the heart of designing services and being a forum where the Bristol Safeguarding Children Board hears children and young people’s safeguarding issues and concerns.

Recently the Shadow Board conducted the first Safeguarding Survey of children and young people in schools across Bristol. The results from this will influence the work of the Board (and schools) in the future.

If your youth participation group is interested in being represented on the Shadow Board please contact us.

The Shadow Board is supported by Becky Lewis, BSCB Business Manager and Henry Chan, Safeguarding Education Team.

Bristol Children Charter

The Bristol Children’s Charter is a set of ten pledges made by organisations from across the city to set the rights and best interests of children as a priority for decision makers in Bristol. The Shadow Board helped to develop and launch this Charter in 2018.

The Charter’s pledges range from the protection of children from harm and having opportunities to play a full role in shaping the city around them to being able to have positive choices about their lives and development.

Principles from the Charter will influence the development of the One City Plan, the emerging shared vision for Bristol which is being contributed to by key organisations across the city and region.
