PREVENT agenda and radicalisation

Radicalisation is the process through which an individual or group develops extreme political, social or religious beliefs. Violent extremism is when a person or group uses fear, terror or violence to try and achieve change.

If you see something suspicious, report it, no matter how small. The best way to prevent violent extremism and terrorism is by stopping it as soon as possible.

Report suspicious activity

If you're concerned about a family member or friend, call 101 and ask for the Prevent Team.

If you think an individual or group is being radicalised, planning violence or is behaving suspiciously, you can:

  • call 999 or the anti-terrorist hotline on 0800 789 321 to report an immediate threat to life or property
  • call 101 and ask for the Prevent Team
  • call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111
  • fill in the online crime form
  • tell MI5 about threats to national security
  • visit your local police station
